If there was ever a way for a mother to prove her love to her child, it would be to give their life for their child. All mothers have thought this at least once in their minds while sitting and watching their child, but never in a million years do we believe it's going to actually happen. Well, one bright, sunny day in July of 2000, a mother's love for her child was proven, and the child still lives, but the mother is gone. This mother happens to be my big sister. I am the last of six children—she was oldest, I am youngest. My sister's daughter was pulled out a mile from shore in the ocean, and my sister never hesitated; she never thought of the things that may or may not happen. All she knew was her daughter's life was in jeopardy, and as all mothers know, there is no stronger bond than mother-child, and that day her daughter Ashley did come out of the water, but my sister did not. She died in her 12-year-old's arms, and there is not one day that has gone by that I don't wonder why this happened. She was on vactation when she died and far from home. Now the whole family is left behind. I often wonder why God took her instead of her daughter, and isn't that a terrible thought, but it's true. My sister wouldn't have changed a thing about that day had she known, because her only true love in life was her child and that is now set in stone. My sister is a hero and one thing's for sure—nothing was stronger than Theresa's love. Copyright © 2002 Christine Reed. All rights reserved. Comments (0)
