Grief Poems
Conceived by a couple that loved each other
Born to parents that adored him
Raised in a house full of love and discipline
Soaring to the peak of his potential
Struck down in his prime… much too soon to comprehend
Ed came into this world as a beautiful baby
He left as a beautiful man
His life has come full circle
He will live on in our hearts forever

My love…my life, we’ve been partners in this game for so long.
We are one player.
We have tolerated so many quirks in one another for so long…
Can we even name the quirks now?
We’ve laughed together, wept together, fought together, parented together,
as husband and wife.
Now I see the life ebbing slowly from your being.
My heart is breaking…I can’t lose you.
How can I go on without you?
Yet I must take care of you now. You are tired and you are hurting.
My love gives me endless energy so that I can be at your side
to cherish every remaining moment that God gives us.
Let me serve you, my love,
as you have so gently tended to me in times of need.
God will support me now while I support you.
And when God quietly takes you from me, I will weep.
I will know that your pain is over.
I will know you are waiting for me.
We will again be united in love with our Father in heaven.

The mountain stood before her, she faced it every day.
But she didn't turn away.
Though painful she knew it would be.
She knew it was for her best.
And as she climbed though wearily, she knew she would pass the test.
For God was with Grandma.
And she knew her lord would show her the way.
Because whatever mountain she would face.
She knew in her heart.
That God was always there with her.
Because he loved her too!

About the author: Gloria Cothren has lupus and lives with her mama and her two aunts and uncle. She likes to write poems and short stories. She loved her grandma very much.
So, we pleaded…with broken hearts, too.
Just one shot of the twins, with Mother,
Who was worn from the labor, we knew.
It was dismal and dull, and the times were hard;
Not enough work to go around.
These were the last, the hardest of all.
Now, one must go in the ground.
Mama was old for a baby at all,
Let alone identical twins.
"No wonder we lost him, no wonder!" we said.
Her face was pale and grim.
So, we laid little babies, one on each side,
And we dreamed of what might have been.
We all cried a little. But, her tears came down
Like a rushing, o'erflowing, stream!
There were things to do. A few brought food.
Then, the church people came and said
They were sorry, no services in the church,
For the tithe had not been paid.
For the rest of my life, I've carried the look
In my mind on mama's face!
Sometimes, these 'religious' ones make it hard
To understand 'Loving Grace'.
It's straightened out, now, and I do not hold
Any grudge against any man.
But, I've studied the likes of Jesus and find
He's certainly not like that band!
Jesus would comfort and, maybe, weep, too.
Jesus would dry her tears.
He might even give her a glimpse of Heaven,
Simply to soothe her cares.
Mama had given so much of herself,
Always a smile and a cheer.
Mama was more like the Savior, that day,
Than any revealed all these years.
Now, they've all gone to Heaven and I'm growing old.
I'll join them before very long.
By the Grace of God, only, I'll find them all there;
Singing a heavenly song.
As long as I have, I'll study His Word
So I can be more like Him.
For, God in His Heaven, knows very well
I never want to be like them!

Please do not stand over my body and weep,
for I am not here, I do not sleep.
The angels transported me in one heavenly leap,
I am now at peace and well, at Jesus’ feet.
My departure was in the Lord’s plan,
it was all in the will of the Son of Man.
One day, very soon, you will also obey this command.
Please be ready for this wonderful Promised Land.
Jesus is the One I really wanted to see,
He is more magnificent than I thought He could be,
And He had a wonderful surprise, just for me,
My infant son and Paw was with Him in eternity.
It is so good to see all my old friends, and kin,
who will never be old again.
They embraced me and welcomed me in,
I am not dead; I am more alive than I have ever been.
Tell family & friends thanks for praying for me,
But more importantly reach those not ready for eternity.
Jesus will also wipe away their sin you see,
and let them enjoy this marvelous state of immortality.
Jesus had a record of all those I had prayed for, and fed.
He provided for my sin, and theirs, when He bled.
I am sure glad I obeyed what He had written and said,
now I am alive forever more, I am not dead.
I found that every Word of His Bible is true,
He wrote it for all mankind, including you,
Please make sure that you do what He wants you to do,
so that you can enjoy this wonderful heaven too!
