comforting

If you have experienced the death of a loved one in the past ten years and are over eighteen years old, we invite you to participate in a brief online study of the ways that individuals make sense of and find meaning in loss. All participants will be entered in a raffle to win one of two $50 gift certificates to Amazon.com.

Your participation will contribute to a better understanding of grief and loss. The researchers, Dr. Brian Vandenberg, and Rachel Hibberd, are most grateful for your time and help in completing the study. If you have any questions, please e-mail rhibberd@umsl.edu. The study has been approved by the Institutional Review board of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

You came into my life as an answer to my
prayers. I prayed for my soulmate to appear,
and into my life you came.
I am amazed at how much alike we really are,
and how you’ve made a profound impact on my
life from the first time we met online.
Your love surrounds me like a warm comforter
on a cold winter’s night. Your honesty and
sincerity prompted me to share private
aspects of my life I never shared before.
You’ve shared the good, bad and ugly parts
of my life, yet you still stand by me.
You know all about the pain, hurts and
sorrows in my life. You hold my battered
heart in your hands, and have shed tears
with me and helped my heart begin to heal.
I thank God every day for your presence in
my life. I love you, “always and forever!”

I never got to see your face
Or even give you a name
But in my heart, you hold a special place
And for that, I would never be the same

I’ll never hear you laugh or cry
Or hold you in my arms tenderly
I’ll never know the color of your eyes
But I will still love you endlessly

I never got to hold your hand
I never got to sing you a lullaby
I will never come to understand
Why murderers run free and innocent souls die

I’ll always have my suspicions
Why God took you from me
All these unanswered questions
That would burn inside of me

Forever saddened upon this Earth
Crying for you, my unborn child
Never blessed by your birth.
But I’ll be here, unable to smile

You are my shining light in heaven
For one of God’s angels to love
Until I get my wings to descend
She’ll take care of you, for me, in Heaven above

You’ll be my Guiding Light to Heaven’s Gate
Where I’ll get to see your Angelic Smile
And even if I never got to see your face
I’ll know in an instant that you are my unborn child!

Dark skies everywhere you look.
Clouds of smoke
Fill the air.
I watch every second of my world change.
I see people's lives coming to an end.
I wonder why it is happening to us.
What have we done to deserve this?
I watch the planes go inside the building
See the faces of my classmates
As they watch with me
I'm getting worried.
Is this the end?
Will I see my family again?
What about the families of the ones that died?
I'm getting real scared now.
Two planes crashed
Now three, and now another one.
I need someone to hold me and tell me everything is just fine
I sit here, crying inside not knowing what's going to happen next.
It's been around a year since this has happen.
I listen to that song Where were you when the world stop turning.
I know where I was then
I was in class, scared, worried about everything.
But now I know I'm fine.
The policemen and women and the fire fighters helped save a lot
Of lives that day.
We will remember that day for a very long time.

I cannot feel the pain you bear,
Nor the emptiness that comes with losing someone dear,
I do not know how many times you have wept,
How many dreamless nights you have slept,
I see, though, that you are in mourning,
Of a cherished soul that left before the day’s dawning,
My dear heart, I weep too,
In my prayers, I place you.
He hasn’t fully passed away,
Believe me, he’s with you everyday,
As long as he’s your treasured stone,
His love will comfort you when in pain you groan,
He takes every step you take,
Though his reflection may not appear on the face of a lake,
Like true soul mates you are,
He’ll be your guiding star.
Don’t you worry, he didn’t sleep alone,
The angels were there to guard their own,
That is why you should smile,
With your fate, you should reconcile,
Maybe his departure is a sign,
Maybe he is your passing angel, your future vine,
Bleed no more, you will be blessed,
You will be seen through this difficult test.

It's been lonely since my life without you has begun,
I no longer see your face with the rising sun.
Every day is a new beginning to a life unknown,
Without you here I feel I'm travelling alone.
So watch over me as I live through each new day,
Walk along life's journey with me and help guide my way.
