Zachary

My name is Cristy, and I am a mother of two. My daughter Ashley is 14-years-old and my beloved son Zachary is now in heaven.

Here is my story.

On December 7, 1997, my son was walking home from the mall, which was 4 blocks from our home. The weather was beautiful on that morning when I left him there, and I instructed him to be home by 4 o’clock that afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., the weather began getting snowy, and it was beginning to sleet. I decided to go and pick Zack up from the mall.

When I turned off my street, I saw my son waiting at the corner for the light to change so he could cross. I was now at the light and was in line. I saw my son proceed across the street. He slipped, fell and got up and headed towards the curb. He slipped again just as he was approaching the curb. A car going too fast for the weather conditions hit my son and dragged him one city block past where I was at the light in line. He was 8 yrs. old and he died before we got to the hospital.

On that day, part of me died too.

I am struggling to get through this ordeal, and my faith in God has surely helped with my griving process. Holidays are extremely hard on me. Especially Christmas.

I am so thankful my mother found out about this group. She recently joined, and I am looking forward to sharing and caring in our common tragedies.
