A Tragedy in New York Brings Blessings

by Joe Bender

For the first time in many years this nation under God has come together and exhibited the values, the courage and the strength to demonstrate what real Americans are all about. Now our role models, our heroes, our leaders are not superstars, not sports figures, not captains of industry any longer but rather the guys next door. The fireman giving his life to rescue others, the coworker standing by the physically challenged, the policeman guiding others to safety while a torrent of debris falls on him, the passengers who elect to give their lives that others may live, the first graders who make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the rescue workers—these are our new heroes, these are our new role models, these are the true Americans.

With this tragedy came the opportunity to show the world what America and Americans are all about. To demonstrate that we are not evil and wicked people but good and caring people. Caring about others, caring about values, caring about human dignity was clearly shown to all in the world who might have doubted. As the world watched, Americans stood tall, courageous, strong and unselfish in action and deeds. So the world responded and poured out sympathy, love, condolences and support. Now because of this tragedy, the world is united against terrorism. Now nations typically opposed to America have joined ranks to seek, find and eliminate terrorism.

Never before has the world collectively had an opportunity to stamp out the chemical, the biological and the nuclear terrorist as it has now. The outcome of this tragedy is God’s blessing to permit us the where with all to remove the greater danger that surely would have occurred. Hundreds of thousand of lives would have been the result of other kinds of terrorism. So thank God for His recent message and know that He never lets us down.
